  1. Before you buy this, or any other Tom Tom product, note that they provide absolutely no repair services after the warranty expires. My unit stopped working two weeks after the warranty expired. When I called to request a repair, the customer service representative informed me that the company will not, under and circumstances, repair a unit that is out of warranty. ,) I was told that I could get a discount on a new Tom Tom via. their trade-in program, despite the fact that our current unit is dead as a doornail. However, when I used their online tool to appraise my unit, the trade-in value was exactly $0.00, due to the fact that it was not operable. So, not only was the representative unable to help me, she lied as well. It’s all for the best, however. I will never buy another Tom Tom, and will encourage everyone else I know to follow suit.

I am not the only one with these issues:

  2. Great product and the screen is just the right size. I liked how easy it was too use. Sometimes it gets the directions wrong though, so it’s good to have an idea of where you’re going

  3. I recently moved back to the United States after retiring from the military. My family moved to a new town in a new state. After getting lost a few times we thought a GPS is what we needed. We got the 140 at Target for a good price and were impressed immediately. UNTIL………..

I tried to update the GPS. That is where the trouble began. The map update continually timed out and would not load onto the GPS when using TomTom’s HOME program. If you google TomTom map update problems then you will be surprised by the number of results. I read a lot of the forums and wasted many hours with Internet forums and TomTom customer support. The support technician did not know how to help me. I tried everything under the sun. I probably spent 20 hours trying to get the map update to work, but to no avail. In short, we used the TomTom for 20 minutes driving home, but it has not worked in four days since I tried to “update” it. Do not buy this product! I am taking it back to the store and buying a garmin! Additionally, I am going to post this on every single review site that I can.

  5. Have you ever seen that scene in Office Space where they go all gangster on the Copy Machine because it keeps fouling up? Thats how this GPS makes me feel. I was warned by a few people that the life of a Tom Tom is very short because dropping it a few times in your car is enough to break it. I laughed at these warnings because mine was working fine. Sure enough, mine is now broken after less than three months of service and I didn’t drop it once. Since I didn’t buy a warranty because money was tight, I am screwed. Now you will excuse me while I destroy this thing with a baseball bat.
